The Project

With the main objective of driving the development of a new cutting-edge industrial economic sector in Portugal, the Blue Bioeconomy Pact is based on the sustainable application of marine bio-resources in multiple industries. By the end of 2025, it plans to develop a total of 52 new products, processes and services resulting from the total or partial incorporation of products from the blue bioeconomy, with a real impact not only on the lives of consumers, but also on the environment, through their responsible and sustainable nature, and finally on national exports.

The Pact is organized into seven industrial verticals, with Aquapor being involved in the Textile Vertical, which aims to develop a new line of clothing and footwear with material based on algae biomass and the use of fishing nets, and the respective processing with dyeing and functional finishes applied to knitwear and marine-based fabrics, in a project led by the TMG group.

Goals

  1. Boosting the development of a cutting-edge industrial economic sector, based on the application of marine bio-resources to multiple industries.
  2. To be the first major showcase of the transversal and ecological potential of marine biotechnology solutions.
  3. To help position Portugal in the global context, as a pioneer in a sector that is estimated to reach €200 billion globally by 2030.
  4. Materialize the great opportunity for growth and innovation in the maritime industries.

Luságua, a company in the Aquapor group, is responsible for collecting fishing nets from the Algarve ports managed by Doca Pesca, having collected 4.5 tons of fishing nets to date.
