In order to respond to legislative changes and public policies regarding water management, and anticipating the need for significant investments, it was agreed to extend the Águas da Figueira concession term from 2029 to 2042. Águas da Figueira is a joint venture between Aquapor and AGS – Administração e Gestão de Sistemas de Salubridade.
This extension will allow an investment of an additional 12 million euros, aimed at enhancing resources in terms of energy efficiency and wastewater reuse, interlinking the Northern and Southern water systems, and redirecting urban effluents from the northern left bank of the river to the Vila Verde Urban WWTP.
The process is now moving forward for submission of an opinion to ERSAR, with the addition expected to be formalized in May.
